I composed and recorded this piece of music inspired from a piece of divisionism visual art work at MFA, which was Antibes, The Pink Cloud by Paul Signac in 1916. I enjoy exploring the creative conversation between visual arts and music.

As a pianist, vocalist, composer, bandleader, Xingyu performed her original music, Jianjia (蒹葭), a composition inspired by ShiJing (詩經), with musicians and dancer from Israel, China, and Argentine. It was an exploration of Chinese poetry, folk dance, contemporary music, dance, and Jazz. The poem JianJia is from the Classic of Poetry, also known as Shijing which is the oldest existing collection of Chinese poetry, comprising 305 works dating from the 11th to 7th centuries BC. Traveling through the river and searching for the scene through the reeds become a metaphor to carry the longing, hope, ambitions, and disappointment in the process of pursuing a dream. Executive Producer: Lucy Holstedt, in collaboration with Ted Lewis, this event was taped at Northeastern University at the Afro-American Institute. This event featured local talent to a full house!
